A Cat Named Brat A Cat Named Brat
$13

Alice Nestleton is suffering through a hot summer in the city when she receives an unusual request -- the reclusive New York writer Louis Morant wants her to entertain his Brat, in his apartment, while he writes. When Alice shows up for her first appointment, Brat isn't there, but Morant's murdered body is. Morant edited the infamous bar and club guidebook New York by Night, which, upon further investigation, seems to contain listings for several establishments that have never existed, and some from the early 1700s. Together Alice and her quirky friends uncover the killer's identity -- with a little help from a cat named Iron Betsy.
A Girl Named Job A Girl Named Job
$23.48

A Girl Named Job is a brilliant collection of memories carefully composed which reveals the telltale story of one girl's life, struggles and triumphs. The self written biography relates closely to the streets and the involvement of street life yet takes a turn and ventures off into a wide variety of other areas that gives the reader unlimited entry into the authors private surroundings. Beginning at birth the story brings to life every emotion the author has ever encountered as well as every down fall, stumbling block and relapse. "A Girl Named Job" was written in an attempt to capture the very essence of what's it's like for a young city girl growing up alone with no boundaries. It points out how drugs and sex can play an early part of any young person's life and destroy it before it ever has a chance to get started. It touches on single parent homes and how difficult it is for a young woman to grow up without the discipline of a father. It draws attention to peer pressure, teen rape, molestation, intimidation, low self esteem, paternity and fertility. Secrets always make for a good topic yet "A Girl Named Job" holds no punches. This lengthy biography sheds light on the delicate subject matter of how all "Bad-Girls" want to be good and how one "Bad" incident can put a "Good-Girl" on a one way path to destruction. Conscience of her higher power the author believes that everyone at one time or another desires the same thing. Love & Happiness, yet some of the sacrifices made in the name of Love can be costly as well as devastating. Though the quest for unconditional love is the basis of this story factors like education (or lack of), ignorance, crime, sex, and abuse both physical and emotional also play their part and help develop the character and her story. "A Girl Named Job" pry's deep into the soul of a woman who has overcome all sorts of trials and tribulations and who holds tight to her faith, her God and the inspirations of her life, her children! "A Girl Named Job" points out the hardships of unemployment, being homeless with children and the embarrassment of dealing with county social services. It takes you into a real life paternity battle where the parties involved don't sit in front of a studio audience but instead sit at home waiting for results, hoping that their worst nightmares haven't come to be. As stated earlier, this book addresses the quest for love unconditional though betrayal plays a continuous unwanted role between, friends and lovers alike. You have grandmothers fighting mothers, fathers fighting mothers, friends trying to rape friends and uncles who just completely cross the line. It takes you into the world of untimely deaths, unexplained deaths and the desperate cry for death, just in order to stop further pain. "A Girl Named Job" will take any readers on an emotional ride of feelings and opinions but most of all it wi...

City City

The author of the international bestseller Silk now delivers a ravishing and wildly inventive novel about friendship, genius and its discontents, and the redemptive power of narrative. Somewhere in America lives a brilliant boy named Gould, an intellectual guided missile aimed at the Nobel Prize. His only companions are an imaginary giant and an imaginary mute. Improbably—and yet with impeccable logic--he falls into the care of Shatzy Shell, a young woman whose life up till that point has been equally devoid of human connection . Theirs is a relationship of stories and of stories within stories: of Gould’s evolving saga of an underdog boxer and the violent Western that Shatzy has been dictating into a tape recorder since the age of six. Out of these stories, Alessandro Baricco creates a masterpiece of metaphysical pulp fiction that recalls both Scheherazade and Italo Calvino. By turns exhilarating and deeply moving, City is irresistible.

Thuringowa was named after the German region of Thuringia where the shire's first chairman, John von Stieglitz originated. Prior to its proclamation as a city on 1 January 1986, Thuringowa was a large rural shire, almost surrounding the City of Townsville. In 2007 the Queensland Government recommended that the Thuringowa City Council and the Townsville City Council be merged as part of the review of councils and boundaries, with the merged entity to be referred to as the Townsville City Council and the city being called the New Townsville City. The transition was completed with the election of a new combined Council on 15 March 2008.
