Building the passion to collect stamps is definitely an ordeal.  Questions that may haunt the curious mind would be where to obtain stamps or how much they would cost or how to even start it are just some of the basic an enthusiast might think of.

It’s not too difficult to start stamp collecting.  In fact, with a lot of determination, a priceless collection may already be at hand!

There are countless stamps produced in different countries with subjects that are vast.  With this idea, one can collect stamps that are thematic, sorting stamps according to the countries where they came from to the details of the imprint itself.

1.    Rummage through the mailbox.  The first step is to search the mail at home.  It may be disappointing to get mails with postage metered stamps but telling them about being a stamp collector and that would make them more than happy to help out.

2.    Ask the parents.  For sure parents or grandparents have old mails and may keep a good collection of letters that may have valuable stamps on them.

3.    Get a pen pal.  Writing letters to people from other countries is a great way to get stamps, and get new friends as well.

4.    Ask around.  Neighbors and friends are sources of stamps as well.  Most people throw away envelopes and save only the letters.  They are all potentially good sources of stamps, specially those with friends and relatives living outside of the country.  It’s not a terrible thing to ask them to keep the envelope or envelopes and have them checked out before throwing away.

5.    Ask for office mails.  Family, friends or a friend of a friend who work at the office can reach office mails.  Businesses receive mails from all over and may get mails from other countries as well.  It will be a good addition to the collection.

6.    Companies producing stamps usually offer free postage stamps and sell some as well.  This is a good way to obtain stamps, and buying them from home, too.  Those that are of no interest to be bought are sent back and the recipient should pay for the return of these stamps.

7.    Old collectors and joining the local stamp collection club is a good way to get hold of stamps, too.  Old collectors are only too happy to help budding collectors and would give out their extra stamps.  Club members often give their stamps out as prizes or sell them inexpensively.

Starting out with old stamps isn’t half as bad as it seems.  It builds patience and makes collecting worth the while.
